Episode 4-1
No One Knows the Truth
-Botanical Garden-
Woman A: We’re finally here! At the botanical garden~.
That rare flower I saw trending on MagiCam only grows here…… I definitely wanna get a pic of it too!
Man B: Same! Where’s it planted?
Woman A: Oh, isn’t that it!? It’s that pretty flower growing in the back of the flowerbed!
Sign: “Do Not Enter”
Man B: Even if it says not to enter…… The other grass and stuff gets in the way and I can’t get a good pic.
*rustle* *rustle*……
Woman A: Hm? Looks like there’s some people behind a tree.
??? (Riddle): Hey, have you heard the rumors? About Night Raven College’s botanical garden…...
??? (Ace): Huh? I haven’t heard anything. Tell me about it.
Woman A: Huh? A rumor?
??? (Riddle): It’s said it happened centuries ago, but…… Apparently the land the botanical garden is built on is a graveyard where “troublesome people” were buried.
??? (Ace): Troublesome people?
??? (Riddle): People like bothersome magi, outrageous tyrants, cruel knights…… the kinds of awful people that the populace couldn’t tolerate anymore.
People with such shady histories can’t be buried in urban areas with lots of people, so they shipped them off to the remote Island of Sages.
And wouldn’t it be terrible if such horrible people returned from beyond the grave as evil spirits? So those that lived on the island had someone guard the graveyard.
But…… It’s said that the gravekeeper disappeared without a trace one foggy night.
And the next gravekeeper they chose, and the next, and the next......
All of them disappeared one after another on foggy nights.
Did they all run away? Or were they dragged to the next world by the scoundrels buried here?
……No one knows the truth.
However, it’s said you can still see skeletons with shovels wandering the botanical garden on foggy nights.
Supposedly, the skeletons are what remains of the gravekeepers that disappeared.
It’s said they still guard the graves, unaware that they themselves are dead.
??? (Ace): What~!? Then why haven’t I ever heard of this before?
??? (Trey): The school is desperately trying to cover it up, but I’ve heard that people go missing at Night Raven College every year.
It’s said that this very botanical garden is the last place those missing people were seen.
That’s why there are so many flowerbeds with “Do Not Enter” signs. They can’t say it outright, of course…...
But it’s probably to keep students out of places where the skeletons appear.
??? (Riddle): …...Even if it’s just a rumor, the fog is rolling in and it’s getting kinda cold. Let’s hurry up and go back.
*rustle* *rustle*……
Woman A: ……Hey. Do you think that story is true?
Man B: Yeah right! It’s just the school’s run-of-the-mill ghost story with skeletons and graveyards and stuff.
Woman A: Oh, you’re right. Like a “Seven Wonders of NRC” type of thing.
Man B: Besides, doesn’t that make this place cooler? A botanical garden with a shady past is super creepy and Halloween-like.
A video of the ghost story is sure to be popular, and might even go viral!
Woman A: That’s true. Let’s go in!
*rustle* *rustle*......
Deuce: ……They went into the flowerbed even though they read the sign!
Cater: MagiCam Monsters confirmed.
Deuce: Even though they overheard Dorm Leader Rosehearts’s story, they still trampled all over the flowerbed!
Cater: Instead of hesitating, they laughed like they were having fun…… I think we’ll have to put a little more oomph into punishing them.
Alright, places everyone!
Deuce & Heartslabyul Students: Yes, sir!
